Yes, I waited until his hair was an unruly puff of curls before I finally caved and let my mom trim his hair a little. And it really was just a little. I couldn't bear to do any more than that. She basically just trimmed off the ends of the few longest curls. I know there were probably a ton of people who saw his hair all crazy like and thought "Geez, that kid needs a haircut!". But they can bite me. I mean, he's a kid, he's not supposed to have GQ perfect hair. It's supposed to be wild and cute and free, like him. I was just not ready for that big milestone, getting rid of the beautiful hair that I waited for so long to grow. He had such short hair for so long! Then he started to get his dad's curls and I was so super excited. When I would picture what my kid would look like long before he ever existed, that hypothetical child always had beautiful curly hair. Now I'm so afraid that he will outgrow them! But his dad still has curly hair when it grows past a certain length, so maybe they will stick around.

Baby's first haircut
Though at almost 3 years old, he's not really much of a baby anymore.

Yes, I waited until his hair was an unruly puff of curls before I finally caved and let my mom trim his hair a little. And it really was just a little. I couldn't bear to do any more than that. "I'm sorry, but I won't be in today...."
Those are the words that I would have had to speak this morning if I still worked outside of the home. My boy has a nasty cold and he's in no condition to go anywhere. It definitely would have been a call in to work day. I hated that, worrying about having to call in, worrying about my kid if he was under the weather at daycare, not being able to be there for him all of the time when he felt like crap. I hated the feeling of having to choose, do I call in or is he healthy enough to try to work today? Will I get a call an hour after dropping him off? No one should have to make the choice to work or take care of their kid. Sick days are the perfect argument for telecommuting.
I'm all for working mothers. Seriously, I admire women who have careers they love and a family. I know that is the right choice for many women, that they would not be happy, whole people if they were to stay home instead of work outside of it. For me I did not have that calling. I had to work outside of the home for us to survive. And when my boy would get sick I just felt this horrible helplessness. I didn't want to jeopardize my job by calling in; I didn't want to be away from my babe when he needed me most; I didn't want to be that parent who took their sick kid to daycare to spread the germs around. It seemed as if no matter what I chose, someone was going to be let down.
So it's on days like today, when my guy is clingy and whiny and has snot dripping out of his nose constantly, that I'm the happiest about he path I've chosen. Because I don't feel guilty. I feel like I'm right where I need to be.
On a completely different note, I just wanted to throw out a thanks to all of my followers! This blogging thing has been really fun so far, and I'm loving getting to connect with people that I normally wouldn't.

Wednesday Review ~Mama K's Aromatic Play Clay~

Okay, who doesn't like play dough? I mean, I'm 29 and I still love to get my hands on the squishy colorful stuff. So when it was time to introduce it to my son, I knew I wanted to get some of the wonderful handmade variety that I had found on Etsy. I settled on Mama K's Aromatic Play Clay due to the essential oil scents and the great colors.
The play clay comes in 7 different scents to invoke different moods:
Soothed ~ Lavender

Eased ~ Bergamot
Inspired ~ Lemongrass
Balanced ~ Geranium
Uplifted ~ Sweet Orange
Refreshed ~ Cardamom
Relaxed ~ Chamomile
Prices range from $4.99 for one scent to $30 for the complete set of 7.
From the Mama K site, "Mama K's Aromatic Play Clay is a 100% natural modeling clay made using only certified GF* flours and organic essential oils. No synthetics, no artificial dyes, nothing but natural. Feels great to play with."
We got the set of all 7 and my favorite scent is the lemongrass, so fresh smelling! My son loves the vibrant colors, especially the geranium. He received a small set of the mass market play dough and when we pull them all out he always picks the Mama K's first! I think he likes the feel of it better, it's softer and molds easier. And I love to just knead and roll it around, it's a great stress reliever.
So if you are in the market for a great gift for a kid, or even a fun loving adult, head on over to Mama K's!

Your crayons are jealous of my crayons ~a review!~
Unless you too own some Chasedreams crayons!
So, I was perusing Etsy a couple of weeks ago, intent on finding my little guy some new crayons. I was tired of having to pick crayon after crayon up off the floor at restaurants, because my dear child thought it was hilarious to roll them all over the place. Dork. Anyways, I knew there were a ton of cool crayons in all different shapes, colors, and sizes on Etsy and I was determined to find the perfect ones for my boy. After quite a few pages I tripped over these lovelies,

Umm, hello? Awesome much?! I'm not even that into the whole mustache thing, but really. They're crayons. And they're mustaches. I mean, the coolness factor is just apparent. So I decided to check out the other crayon greatness in Chasedreams's shop. Lo and behold, I hit the jackpot! I found these treasures,

and I knew then that these must be mine, uh, I mean, my son's. All of Chasedreams crayons are made from recycled, non-toxic crayons and are packaged in eco-friendly biodegradable bags made from plants. They also have super cute heart, rock, fortune cookie, and building block shapes. Andrea is super friendly and provides top notch customer service. And most importantly? My boy LOVES his new crayons! He actually spends a ton of time just playing with the different figures as well as coloring, so they keep him doubly entertained. And the moustaches keep the adults entertained since we all have to hold them to our lips and giggle like school children. Yeah. we're simple like that.
